Documentation / Help
SwiftLing sends nothing until you press a button. Visits to your site never send anything.
Google Cloud Translation (free plugin)
- What is sent: when you save or check a key, a request for the list of languages and the word “Hi” to confirm the key works. When you press translate in the editor, the texts of the page that have no translation yet, and the codes of the languages. Translate everything: the same texts of every page, one page at a time. Link addresses and other attributes of HTML tags are not sent.
- When: only when a logged-in administrator saves or checks the key, or starts a translation.
- Where:
translation.googleapis.com, with your key. Google bills your account. - Terms, privacy.
DeepL, Claude, OpenAI, Gemini (Pro)
Same rules: only when you start a translation, with your key, to the service’s own servers. See each service’s terms and privacy policy.
WordPress.org
When you add a language whose WordPress translation is not installed, SwiftLing asks WordPress to install it, as the Languages setting of WordPress does: the language code goes to api.wordpress.org and the translation is downloaded from downloads.wordpress.org. Only when an administrator who may install languages saves the languages.
Domain check
When you save a subdomain or a domain for a language on the URLs screen, SwiftLing opens that address with a random code to check that it leads to your site. The request goes only to the address you entered.
Support (swiftling.pro)
- Request support (free): what the request is about, your email, optionally an address and the support report, the SwiftLing version and language. Only when you press Send.
- Support (Pro): the text of your request, screenshots, your email, and when you choose, the site summary. Sent over HTTPS, signed with your licence’s install key.
- Kept: requests for 2 years after the last message; consent records 5 years; temporary login links until the access ends and at most 14 days.
- Privacy policy: https://swiftling.pro/privacy/ (to be published).
What SwiftLing stores on your site
Translations, settings and logs, in its own tables and options. The logs hold no page content, keys or visitors’ data. The note that suggests a visitor’s language is remembered in the visitor’s browser without cookies once it is closed.
